GIGL JAMBOREE BASICS:
GIGL Jamborees are huge festivals of fun and golf.
Last season averaged about 275 girls at the GIGL Jamborees which take place at MGA Links in Norton, Mass.
(Now called the Links at Mass. Golf - same location.)
At this point, however, we are only having one session on 11/9 and the maximum # of girls will be 135.
No experience is necessary and girls 4-18 are welcome to register and join the team events.
Clubs will be provided to all who need them for FREE use.
The cost is only $10 per person, well $10.30 due to the credit card fee.
GIGL Experts, such as LPGA pros, will run a clinic which will be followed by a 9 hole team alternate shot tournament.
The borderline raucous atmosphere will have music blaring and high fives galore.
The next GIGL Jamboree is Saturday, November 9th

HOW GIGL JAMBOREE TEAMS WORK
Every girl who registered will be put on a team and will be able to participate in the clinic and the team tournament
A minimum of 4 girls is needed, however, for a town to have its own team in any GIGL Jamboree.
So, if you want to be on a team with girls just from your town, then you need at least 4 girls from that town to have registered.
All girls from the same town/school will play for the same team.
There is no maximum number of girls on a team.

A TEAM ORGANIZER IS NEEDED FOR EACH TEAM
Each team also needs at least one parent willing to be the team organizer -no team can participate without a team organizer.
Multiple parents of different girls on a team can feel free to become co-team organizers and share the responsibilities.
The few duties of a GIGL Jamboree team organizer's include:
* Make sure the girls who have registered are planning on attending.
* Get the email addresses for the team and send occasional reminders about 11/9.
* Help to make sure the team has at least 4 girls and try to recruit more.
* Help your team get to the clinic and to the tournament starting hole during the GIGL Jamboree.
Those interested in being a team organizer need to contact Dave Barend @ [email protected].

GIGL JAMBOREE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS & RULES

SAFETY #1 - NO TWIRLING - NO OTHER KIDS
The #1 priority at this event is to make sure every girl is safe.
Please inform your girls that when they are walking with a club they MUST always carry it by its head.
They also can NEVER twirl a club.
One little girl once lamented to me, "But clubs are so twirl-able."
Hard to contest that logic, yet we must.
In addition, absolutely no kids others than those participating in the clinic or the tournament will be allowed on the course. That's per order of the pro at The Links, and GIGL supports it completely.

15 MINUTE RULE - 2ND MOST IMPORTANT RULE
The maximum time a group can take from point of finishing one hole to finishing the next is 15 minutes.
If that isn't followed then GIGL will lose its ability to play at The Links.
And given that there are not a plethora of other courses yearning for hundreds little girls, if we lose MGA Links, GIGL is likely no more.

Scoring -
First, it's important to note that scoring and winning are far second to fun at GIGL tournaments.
(And, of course, way below safety and the 15 min per hole rule)
That said, the format is pairings of 2 or 3 girls w/in a team playing alternate shot format.
The top two scores (from two sets of pairings) on a team will be that team's score.
The team organizer will need to enter those scores in the standings that will be hanging on the wall in the event room.

10 Minutes And Move Balls To Green -
If any pairing in a grouping has not made it to the green in 10 min, simply move their ball to the green.
This will help with the 15 minute maximum per hole rule.

8 Swings Per Pairing Max
Each pairing gets a maximum of 8 swings to get the ball in the hole.

Misses & Duffs Count As Swings -
If a girl swings and misses or duffs, that counts as one of her pair's 8 strokes.
If someone swings and misses it then becomes her partner's turn - no exceptions.

Tee it up!
It is ok for you to move the tee up  - even way up.
Huge help with the 15 min per hole rule as well.

No Cartwheels
You'd think this could go without say, but you'd be wrong:
Please don't let your girls do cartwheels or roll around at MGA Links.
A golf course is generally considered to be a cartwheel free zone.

Move Up After 2 Misses By Pair
If at the tee or any spot in (or near) the fairway, both girls in a pairing swing and miss - move the ball up.
Again, this helps with the all-important 15 minute per hole rule.

OK To Play Less Than 9 Holes
If your girls seem to be struggling after a few holes, please feel free to stop.
And then you no longer have to worry about the 15 minute per hole rule.
